Finn’s Manga Review: The World is Mine Vol. 1

 theworldismine

I hope that this will be the most negative review I am ever compelled to write for anime reviewed. Personally I like stories with powerfully maniacal anti-heroes, but there is nothing to like about the characters in The World is Mine. The story follows a pair of mass murderers as they kill and rape their way across Japan in some poorly planned scheme to randomly set explosives all over the place. Toshi is a stereotypical mad bomber who teams up with the only character more despicable than himself, the thrill killing megalomaniac Mon. Neither of them has a redeeming quality or the charm of say Hannibal Lecter. I truly hate them both. In an almost unrelated parallel plot line some kind of Godzilla sized bear monster named “Higumadon” rampages across the countryside killing people and crushing everything in it’s path. This plot would make a decent monster horror manga, but without a compelling protagonist it still falls short. The only real cohesion between the stories is that Toshi and Mon are worried that the Higumadon will kill more people than them thus stealing their glory. The story is really bad. 1/5

The artwork in this manga is just as unappealing as the lame story. The backgrounds seem sloppy and overambitious. The faces are often distorted and drawn with mucus or foam streaming from noses and mouths. Its almost as if the artist was intentionally trying to make me dislike the characters even more. I have seen worse art in mangas, though not many. I don’t recommend reading this unless you have a lot of spare time and a high tolerance for crap. 2/5
