I am very happy to post the interview I had with Pete Ellison, also known as DJ Initial P, from Diskowarp Records. Their new album, Anime Love Hardcore , has been like the only music I have listened to lately. Terribly catchy, the album has grown on me. You should go out and purchase it if you like what you hear. You can preview the album at the above website.
Here is our interview: (AnimeSalvation= AS and Pete Ellison = PE)
AS: Can you tell me some of the stories behind the songs you chose for the CD?
PE: Haha, the only one that really has a story behind it is the cover of “Heart Of Madness” – one of my collaborators Rachel Picard has been obsessed with that song ever since we first heard it in the 90′s. We both used to sing it all the time (or the English parts anyway). It’s just one of those awesomely bad songs that is easy to become obsessed with. I mean, it’s sort of a terrible song, but something about it is completely addictive. I hope this cover lets a new generation of anime fans get it stuck in their heads
AS: This may not be the most original question but what is your all time favorite anime movie and series?
PE: Dragon Half, Puni Puni Poemi, Excel Saga, Ebichu, Digi Charat (the original only), Golgo 13, Super Gals, Death Note, You’re Under Arrest, Slayers
AS: What was your inspiration for making the CD?
PE: I’ve been making happy hardcore and eurobeat music since 2005, and have been DJ-ing at anime conventions for around 4 years now. I fell in love with anime theme songs and it seemed natural to put them together!
AS: Will there be a 2nd anime related CD in the future?
PE:You’ll definitely be seeing more music under the Anime Love Hardcore brand, and I’d love to make a sequel. Whether there will be a CD release or not depends entirely on sales. So if fans would like to see a second volume, please support Disko Warp and buy our CD!
AS: While we are an anime/manga review site, many of us love video games. We are aware you have made music for Dance Dance Revolution (let me know what one please). Do you think you may go on to do something ever with video game music?
PE: So far our music has been featured in In The Groove & In The Groove 2, Dance Dance Revolution Universe 1, 2 & 3, and brand new Pump It Up Pro 2. There’s a couple more coming out that I can’t talk about yet. We’ve definitely talked about doing an album of video game music remixes, I think that would be a lot of fun! I’m not sure how the licensing would work. I’d love to remix or cover something from Katamari some day.
AS: We hear you are going to be at the Kumoricon. Any chance if we make it that we will be able to hear you play some of these tracks live?
PE: Definitely. I’ll be playing at the Saturday night dance at the actual con (on Sept 4th) along with Jimni Cricket, Graz, Kid Kaboom, Matt Terror and GnarGnarKillKill.
Disko Warp is also throwing a Kumoricon 2010 Official Pre-Party & Anime Love Hardcore CD Launch the night before the convention (Sept 3rd) at Ground Kontrol, and I’ll be playing there along with Graz and Foxdye.

Sounds legit! For me, anime themes are always the catchiest when you’ve never heard them before and you’re watching the anime for the first time and you think “wow, this is cool!” but for some reason if I hear the song before I see the anime it’s not as fulfilling. From the sound of this CD though, it would be hard not to love it!
