Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most anticipated media pieces. But it was one of the worst media launches. As users realized that the promised game didn’t exist, the situation quickly escalated. Cyberpunk 2077 launched with a broken system. It was also plagued by bugs and performance problems, particularly when compared with the previous generation.
CD Projekt Red, who owns the IP, could not recover from the game’s launch. The company was successful but the stock price plummeted and their PR was horrible. They were literally racing against the clock to finish what they had already released. Before the game was released, they announced that an anime series would be produced in collaboration with Studio Trigger. Although the announcement was received with great excitement at the time, many people don’t care anymore now that the anime has finally arrived years later.

This is unfortunate, because even though it was a disaster, CD Projekt Red has made the game playable. It may not be the perfect game, but the current state makes it much more enjoyable. The release of Edgerunners is at a time when the brand is slowly but surely healing. This series was a testament to the amazing work of Trigger and will only help with healing.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners is a series that consists of 10 episodes. The story follows David, an 18-year old man who tries to reach the top of Night City. The story can be read on its own and has nothing to do with the game’s story. The anime draws heavily from the game’s concepts, lore, and locals, so those who have already played it will get a lot more out of the series. The collaboration between the studios made this series an integral part of the universe and not a separate spin-off.

Studio Trigger is the main protagonist of the series. Studio Trigger is now a legendary character thanks to its stunning animation style. Trigger is a master at anime. Trigger’s ability to create action sequences, and characters that are outrageous is unrivalled. Every scene and every sequence continues to showcase the studio’s animation talents. The action is intense and exciting, the characters are original and sexy, while the anime’s main protagonist, the city, feels alive.
We all have seen the story of David before. Even the creators of anime admit that Martin Scorsese’s films were a major inspiration in the story they are telling. First, there’s “Goodfellas”. David is exactly like Henry in this movie. He begins as a normal, ambitious kid. Then he begins to hang out with the wrong people and his descent into Night City’s criminal underground becomes a normal progression. Even though it all seems familiar, Trigger manages to add some cyberpunk to his story.

Trigger is able spice up the story with his wits as the season progresses. Although David and Lucy, the femme fatale, are well-versed in the story, things quickly spiral out of control. The story exploits the universe, using details that are unique to the setting to create terrifying and thrilling events mid-season. Despite being the least complex characters in anime they are still easy to care for, especially during fast-paced action sequences.
Cyberpunk 2077 might still be recovering from its disastrous launch, which nearly cost it its life. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners represents a positive step. This series could bring the game to a new audience. It would be remarkable, considering the game is now and not in its original launch. These videogame adaptations have been a big success on Netflix. This is the best way to bring these franchises alive on the big screen.
