Jack Kirby created Darkseid, a fictional supervillain who first appeared as a cameo in Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #134 in November 1970. He was first introduced in Forever People #1 on February 1971. Darkseid’s ultimate goal is to destroy the universe and eliminate all hope and free will. He is a New God who is one of the most powerful beings in DC Universe. He was originally created as Superman’s antagonist in Kirby’s Fourth World saga. Then he became the archenemy of Justice League and one of Superman’s greatest villains.
IGN ranked Darkseid the 6th Greatest Comic Book Villain. Wizard magazine ranked him the 23rd Greatest Villain. Darkseid has been extensively adapted to comics and other media. He was voiced by Michael Ironside, Andre Braugher, Tony Todd, and Superman/Batman: Apocalypse’s Superman/Batman: Apocalypse. The character’s feature film debut was made in 2021 by Ray Porter, who portrayed the role of Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
How Strong Is Darkseid – Powers & Abilities
Darkseid, a New God, is one of the most powerful beings in the DC Universe. His most used and popular ability is the Omega Effect. He can release Omega Beams directly from his eyes. Omega Beams are a powerful form heat energy that can either subdue or disintegrate objects and organisms. Doomsday and Superman are examples of super-powered creatures that have been able resist the Beams. Superman, despite suffering a lot, was unable resist the Beams. Orion and Diana were able to deflect them. Firestorm once used his power to redirect them. Galactus was not affected in the crossover story. These beams are a result of a cosmic energy source known as the “Omega Effect”.
They can also revive previously killed creatures. This is often used as a way to punish people who fail him, but are too valuable to him to kill. Darkseid is capable of controlling this energy with pinpoint accuracy. Darkseid’s unerring focus allows for him to bend and curve around corners as well as pass through energy and matter. His Omega Sanction gives him the ability to teleport other people through time and space. Darkseid used his Omega Beams in the Final Crisis to give Mary Marvel power. Her powers were more based on Anti-Life magic than magic.
What is Darkseid’s Strength? Darkseid’s strength is shown as being extremely high. He can easily break a Green Lantern Ring with his naked hands. He can defeat two Kryptonians at once, and the entire Justice League. He is known for his speed, agility, and quick movements. Superman was caught off guard and he can respond in nanoseconds. He can still defeat an Olympian God like Zeus even without Darkseid’s full strength and power. He can also grow in stature. Darkseid is also able to use telekinesis and telepathy to grow in size. Darkseid can also create psionic avatars. Darkseid, who is both immortal and a deity and has lived for hundreds upon thousands of years, isn’t invincible. He has been killed many times.
Darkseid was able to transpose the positions of two different planets in different solar system, take mental control over the entire planet’s population, absorb all information from another being’s brain, create the worst fears of others as realities, defeat powerful beings like Mon-El, Mordru and the Time Trapper and pronounce a curse.
Darkseid is an expert hand-to-hand combatant, and has been trained to fight on Apokolips. He is a superhuman being with exceptional combat skills and extraordinary abilities. Even though he is skilled in using various weapons, he doesn’t use them often due to his other powers such as the Omega beams.
Darkseid is a formidable, physical being. He avoids confrontations though because he uses his superhuman intellect and powers to control and manipulate other people. Darkseid displayed his godly powers by detecting the death of Orion, and fluctuating the energy of “Godwave”. Darkseid is Apokolips’ ruler and has access to all its technological and military capabilities.
