Ipswich, Massachusetts: Dead in a drowning incident| News

IPSWICH — A man has died in what police say was either a possible drowning or a medical episode off Pavilion Beach Sunday evening, police said.

The victim was identified as a Rowley woman, age 60. A Beverly Hospital spokesperson said that he had been declared dead.

Chief Paul Nikas withheld the name of the victim because it is possible that the death was due to a medical emergency other then drowning.

Pavilion Beach was contacted by the Ipswich fire and police departments at 5:17 PM for a report about a person in distress.

The person was pulled from water and helped by a retired Ipswich firefighter (and an off-duty Somerville firefighters), who did not want their identities to be revealed.

The cause of death will be determined by an autopsy, the town’s spokesman said.
