And we are back with episode 12, the penultimate episode of “Lycoris recoil”. Going into this episode, I wasn’t as excited as I thought I would be for this confrontation.
Lycoris Recoil Episode 12: Review
Majima is an interesting character, and his fascination with Shizotto as a motivator is pretty interesting, but he never seemed like the big bad, and I think that’s what we got this week with Yoshi dropping his mask.
Shizotto and Takina fight Majima, which is a solid fight that honestly ends pretty quickly, like it’s resolved pretty quickly, even before the OPA, with Shizotto blowing out her eardrums with his gun, but it’s quick but satisfying.
The climax was probably talking to her and saving him last week. It made sense to wrap it up quickly and put it on the bars. and then we have Shizato going to confront Yoshi and we have this dropped mask moment with him where he basically plotted to put it all together and put the heart in his own body to force Shizata to kill again to save his own life and it’s a pretty serious conversation between Yoshi and Shizatsu and before the reveal even happens, they were just talking and all I can think of as they talk is that she has to listen to what he says, she left Majima unguarded and that really bothers me, but that’s not the case because she steps in to expose Yoshi and reveal that he gave the weapons to Majima and that he worked with him on this plot to bring Chisato there.
takina in this episode, I think she was great, she overtook Shizotto without hesitation to kill Yoshi for his heart and she was very unhinged at times to protect Chizato, it was amazing, I really like her a lot in this episode, and we built up this kind of climax where, talking, I was like hanging from a scaffold, Yoshi shoots her and she’s finally forced to shoot him to stop him from killing Kizato.
to stop him from killing Kakina and she screams and lets out all this emotion and it’s heartbreaking to see it, but he doesn’t die and she doesn’t finish him off and let them escape because if she lived killing him and living in his place, she wouldn’t be herself and it’s a really great moment and scene and talking to like doesn’t accept it and tries to push it, but she stops it and it’s The only problem I have with that is the pacing of this episode because that was the emotional high point of the show, not just this episode.
I was exhausted after that, to the point where we’re only 10 minutes into the episode and we’re going to do something else, another mission to save licorice, and I’m like no, that was it, man, that was the emotional climax of everything.
I don’t know if I can go on, but we go on and it leaves you in a dead zone for the rest of the episode, the other episodes are still good, but I don’t know, you’re emotionally drained after the first half and the second half pales in comparison, so the pacing isn’t great in this episode, but it’s good, so it’s easy to forgive, the D.A. Lily Bell and Lily work together to save licorice.
The D.A. is working with Lily Bell to take out all of Licorice, which is not for nothing, I think it’s interesting to have an organization over Lillyville and Licorice and have them come in and take over, but their plan is to use our second secret location to kill our first secret location.
We have uh Walnut doing a one up on uh robota robito um and for that it was a very funny segment where shizotto has to find a USB port and has problems with that, but uh, we start as a VR hacking thing and as I wasn’t a bit the VR hacking thing in the previous weeks luckily this one was very short and sweet, but we had a very good one up on a rubber where he gets uh uh arrested and walnut kind of takes control of everything that is very solid, very fun to see, it’s all covered up like a publicity stunt but it’s an interesting thing to do and I like the idea, it’s like a ride or an experiment, the only problem is what about the guns that are distributed all over Japan and people getting shot in public, like when they showed us a guy with a gun who found Majima’s 101’s distributed and he just shot a licorice without thinking.
I understood that to mean that this was happening all over Japan, not just here, not just an isolated incident, and the problem is that even though it didn’t happen all over Japan, everyone recognized the uniform, that’s the idea of what they’re wearing, that uniform, and they’re saying, “Oh no, I saw them,” and that takes away the credibility of the cover-up.
But the cover-up, Shizotto is left alone with Majima to close the episode, it’s like a bunch of good licorice stuff with a girl’s team, it’s really good, just interpersonal stuff. I feel the same way about Shizato and Takina, they’re really joking around, they’re having a good time, but they just… their emotions are all over the place and you’re screaming in angst five minutes ago.
So even though I feel that way, I feel like the characters aren’t in that weird tone change. Shazato is fun because she’s still bubbly and fun, even though this is the first time we’ve seen her extremely pressed by this emotional breakdown.
It’s an interesting dynamic because it’s basically the same thing we did in the previous episode or what we were doing at the end of the previous episode, but her plan failed, Majima’s plan failed, Lily Bell’s plan failed. failed so we end up with Majima who seems to be acting independently for the first time and him with Shizotto, I don’t think they’re going to fight again, I think they’re going to talk instead, like in their first meeting or the one in Chizata’s apartment where they explored their dynamic towards each other, maybe they’re going to fight… Maybe they will talk to each other…
I’m interested in what’s going to happen… There is definitely more Lily Belt to come because the leader Chizato recognized and acknowledged her… They seem to have a connection… Maybe we will get the reward in the next episode… But to be honest with you, there are so many loose ends with Yoshi running away… Majima…
I don’t think they’re going to fight, so I don’t think he’s going to run away or get arrested, Lily Bell’s leader, and more generally the conversation with Chizato, there’s so much to sort out that I don’t think if Shizotto dies next week, there’s no way that’s going to happen in two minutes, this is an episode that should be almost exclusively dedicated to that.
so I don’t think we’re going to wrap it up in one episode and if we do, I’m worried, so it’s more likely that we’ll have a happy ending with a tease for season 2, I don’t see it as wrapping up and a nice little bow on the story and dropping everything, which I usually prefer, but we’ll see what happens, I’m really looking forward to next week. . next week, if it can be as emotionally relevant as this week, I think we’re in for a treat.
That’s all I have to say for this time. Let me know in the comments if you feel the same way, what’s going to happen next week, and if you’re enjoying the show so far,
